I've spent the last 10 years solving complex technical challenges. First at enterprise scale, delivering into UK Government on behalf of IBM UK. Then inside a growing startup, serving businesses much like yours.
Now I'm going solo: working directly as a fractional CTO or technical advisor for businesses who need strategic leadership and judgement, without the price tag.
The Problem
What worked at the start may not work at scale.
Growing a business means growing technology: new systems, new integrations, new workarounds. Each one added to solve the problem in front of you. It happens in every software business, whether you've just landed a chunk of seed investment or at series A/B funding.
Tech debt impacts velocity first, then it hits your CS team, then it costs you real customers. Those "quick fixes" may be keeping the lights on, but have they spun into a spider's web that feels too tangled to unravel?
Are vision and roadmap aligned, or is the team unclear on where you're headed and how to get there? Could your up-and-coming technical leader use someone to lean on occasionally?
Then comes AI and the inevitable drive to adopt. How can you tell where it adds value, and where the risks simply don't stack up? Does it even fit into your product and your existing data?
